Author Daniel de Visé on “King of the Blues”

Welcome Daniel de Visé:

We’re joined on the Starline by an author and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. He’s written about wrongfully convicted men and his late brother-in-law Don Knotts. His latest effort is “King of the Blues” on the late B.B. King. We welcome Daniel de Visé.

Daniel, let’s go Beyond the Mic. You’ve written articles that have won regional and national awards. Why did you feel that B.B. King story was worth the research?

One of my greatest regrets was missing one of his last shows. The research you did for this book is hefty. Which fact that you researched was the one that surprised you the most?

The biggest impact was Maxwell Davis on B.B. Kings career.

What made Lucille and the way BB played her so powerful?

Playing up to 300 shows a year and yet for most of his life he was still broke, how did that affect him and opportunities missed from being the road?

After BB passed the blues continued as his family fought over the will.

The Rockin’ 8:

The Book is “King of the Blues” on the late B.B. King. Daniel de Visé is the author. It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. Best place to think on the Northwestern campus?

2. Yes or No : Will the NCAA exist in 15 years ?

3. What do you and your friends do when you hang out?

4. Favorite library?

5. Are you neat or messy?

6. Best song you play as part of The Stepping Stones, your Monkees Cover Band?

7. Place you haven’t visited that you want to?

8. Other than your Pulitzer, most important award you’ve received?

One Big Question

Why is unbiased reporting so important right now?

What’s your next project?

B.B. King wanted to be out with the Blues Brothers, but he was out on tour.

The Wrap:
