Author of “Monarca” Leopoldo Gout

Welcome Leopoldo:

We’re joined on the Starline by a visual artist, award-winning author. He also is a filmmaker and producer. His latest project is a fable about a Mexican-American girl who transforms into a monarch butterfly in “Monarca”, we welcome Leopoldo Gout.

Leopoldo, let’s go Beyond the Mic splitting this book into four parts mirroring the monarchs life stages was the idea of your co-author Eva. Why was it so important and what did it allow it to you to do?

As logging continues in Mexico in an effort to create more places for avocado growers, how does this limit the places that monarch butterflies can live?

How has your own metamorphosis from your early days in Mexico City and London help change you for today?

Author of Monarca Leopoldo Goot joins us Beyond the Mic. You’ve made incredible films like Molly’s Game and written books like Piñata, but what is the one thing you wish you could do, but haven’t done yet?

You’ve used mixed media, ball point pens and paint in your art. If you could create something that defines the struggles of the Monarchs, what would it be?

If people wanted to help the Monarch, what is one thing they can do at their own home to help?

One Big Question:

How has working with Eva on Monarca change the way that you look at nature?

The Wrap:

Artist, filmmaker, author of Monarca, we thank Leopoldo Gout for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends… is a Beyond the Mic Short Cut.
