Firefighter Clare Frank on “Burnt”

Clare Frank, California’s 1st female Chief of Fire Protection, shares her incredible journey in ‘Burnt: A Memoir of Fighting Fire’.

Welcome Clare:

We’re joined on the Starline by author, firefighter and California’s first and only female Chief of Fire Protection. Her book “Burnt: A Memoir of Fighting Fire” is out. We welcome Clare Frank.

Clare, let’s go Beyond the Mic. Canada was on fire and the smoke poured into the U.S. How what happened this spring became a recipe for disaster now?

You have fought fires, wildfires and bias in a male-dominated field. How did you survive 30 years of this?

Living through trauma, risk and guilt, you have left the station house behind. But have you left it all behind?

Why does fire invigorates you and scares you?

The Rockin’ 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. Favorite pickleball paddle?

2. Best thing you cooked in the fire house?

3. How do you describe your driving skills as a firefighter?

4. Best thing about your dog?

5. What’s the one thing on your to-do list?

6. What is something you wished you learned before becoming a firefighter?

7. Who was the one person who helped keep you sane in the fire house?

8. Can you finish the joke “A baseball cap, a cowboy hat, and a Kangol walk into a bar” cleanly?

One Big Question:

What’s the message you want to give to the youth today who want to become firefighters?

Sneaking in a Couple More:

How emotional were you after a fire death?

Did the book allow you an outlet dealing with the pain?

The Wrap:

Her brother supported her firefighting dream, drives most excellent and known in the firehouse for her chicken nachos. Her book is “Burnt”. Clare Frank, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.
