The Beyond the Mic Studio

We have 2 designated studios that we record Beyond the Mic from: Studio C and Studio T.

Studio C:

The main studio Studio C is located in Lubbock, Texas.

When I’m recording an interview I’m using a Rodecaster Pro. I like the separation of audio channels and allows me to get the best audio possible.

The Podcaster is a workhorse and does everything I need and more.

The Elgato Teleprompter is my next tool. Simple, easy and allows me to read my notes while talking to a guest via video chat.

Behind the teleprompter is the Elgato Facecam MK2 1080p.

Holding my video mic is the Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP 01. I love cable hiding and this does it perfectly.

When I’m on a video call, I’m recording with a Shure SM63. It gives my guests great audio back to them and is perfect for initial recording.

When I do rerecord my audio (since I’m looking at a Hisense TV, a Dell Monitor and a HP Conpaq L2015tm monitor, I use my personal holy grail.

The Gauge ECM-87 with is a great clone of the Neuman U87. If you think my sound is good, it’s not my voice but the mic.

The Beyond the Mic LED sign was created by Scott at Signs on the Go in Lubbock Texas.

The soundproofing wall was all my wife’s Joanna’s idea. She took a trifold panel, you know the ones that are used for science fair projects, and glued sound absorbing tiles to it. When I rerecord my audio, its into these tiles.

And my favorite piece of equipment for the studio and the inspiration for the BTM logo, the Astatic D 104 Microphone.

That’s studio C.

Studio T:

Studio T’s equipment is not ours so I won’t list it because I only use it when the main location is out of commission, power or internet. The “T” studio is a friend of mine who loves podcasting too.

I’m always asked if I do any recording from my work studios and the answer is always no.

I don’t do any recording from my work studios as it’s my way of keeping my job’s business and Beyond the Mic separate.
