Actor / Comedian Michael Ian Black

Welcome Michael Ian Black!

We’re joined on the Starline by a man of many talents, actor, comedian, award-winning children’s book author, podcaster and more. But he’s also a dad sending his son off to college. We’re joined by Michael Ian Black welcome

Let’s go Beyond the Mic your Book “A Better Man” serves as part memoir, part advice book. Why was this important to write down for your son and for you?

How has raising your son through school shootings, gun violence, gender issues and one of the most politically toxic times change you?

We first noticed you when you played the character Phil Stubbs in the NBC show Ed. How has your acting & comedy changed over the last 20 years?

Author Michael Ian Black’s new book is “A Better Man” and he joins us Beyond the Mic. You break down masculinity in your book and give an amazing measure for us to examine. The “Infinite Axis of Masculinity” Even though it is infinite could you give me two points on extreme ends?

How many of these lessons have you in one way or another tried to show your son Elijah before the book?

Reading about your family vacations brought me back to the bright yellow station wagon that my dad would drive us in as we search for some educational spot Mom wanted us to see. How did your vacations as a youth change the way you raised your own son? Was it like, “I’m gonna torture you like Grandpa used to torture me.”

Fear

Author Michael Ian Black’s new book is “A Better Man” and he joins us Beyond the Mic. One of the best lines in the book and you may be offended by picking this one line out as the best line.  “How many times have you seen some movie character spit into the dust and mutter something like, ‘I ain’t afraid of nothin’? Son, I’m here to tell you, that man is a goddamned liar.” Talk to me about fear.

Have you dismantled the Elijah’s loft bed yet and have you considered other uses for his bedroom now that he’s off to college?

Other than the book, what other things did you get your son before he left for college?

How has the pandemic quarantine changed the way you do things?

Who is the one comedian that changed the way you looked at comedy?
