Welcome Jeremiah
We’re joined on the Starline by a comedian you’ve seen on MTV Roast Battle, Jimmy Kimmel Live, HBO’s Crashing and much more. His comedy special “Family Reunion” is available everywhere. We welcome Jeremiah Watkins.
Let’s go Beyond the Mic, 2020 has been the suck for the world, but for you it has been passable. 1st you have a new comedy special, 2nd, you’re going to be a dad.
What are the lessons you are trying to learn before April arrival of your son?
How did your family respond when you let them know you were going to be a dad?
And then I saw the gender reveal you made the world laugh with that, you didn’t want a daughter, I thought you’d be a great girl dad?
Jeremiah Watkins “Family Reunion”
Your special “Family Reunion” has reactions from your family on your standup. How did you plan that or did it happen organically? How did you go from interviews with your family to one big special?
You couldn’t turn away and not see a family member. It’s like the holidays for all of us, they are always there and you couldn’t escape!
He’s a 5* laugh at a 3$ price range Jeremiah Watkins joins us Beyond the Mic. Jeremiah, you started in radio when you were 19, what was that like?
How did you move from radio to comedy?
10 years in radio in one place is forever.
Kansas born and raised, now in LA, what are the big differences that people might not think of?
Confidence in comedy
Talk about the confidence you have to have creating jokes, putting them out there in a dog eat dog world of comedy.
You are the master of the heckler, pretty much say “you’ve opened yourself up to this, GAME ON!”
With many clubs closed how special is it for you to have your special out there as a reminder of a moment frozen in time, where mom could come on stage and hug you and we weren’t all six feet apart?
Some comedians are doing drive in shows. Are you a fan of the prius honking at you either signaling that they like you or for the guy in front of them to sit down.
His special “Family Reunion” is out now. Jerimah Watkins joins us Beyond the Mic. In the 70’s and 80’s it was being asked to sit by Johnny. Then Dave and Jay… What’s the sign for a comedian that they have made it now?
