Welcome Jim Davidson:
We’re joined on the Starline by resilience speaker, author and climber. Summited Mt. Everest in 2017, survived earthquakes & avalanches there in 2015. His story of his 2015 journey is “The Next Everest” and we welcome author Jim Davidson.
Jim, let’s go Beyond the Mic Everest is the Holy Grail for climbers. Over 29 thousand feet and many people try each year, few succeed. Why was climbing Mt. Everest so important for you?
The environment of Everest picks on every weakness, emotional and physical, how has this experience of facing adversity and surviving changed you?
The Gorkha earthquake measured a 7.8 on the Richter scale. In your book you talk about leaving your tent in your socks. How disorienting was it on the mountain at base camp?
Forty years of interest, 33 years of training and then nine hours into 2015 poof it was over. How did your 2017 summit feel after the tragedy and watching 5 out of your own climbing team of 15 didn’t even make it to summit?
A typical American has things we take for granted but for someone from Nepal it would be an incredible luxury. What makes Nepal so special?
For the Sherpas climbing and helping climbers that’s their life. Talk about PK, your Sherpa for this adventure.
Jim, waste is swamping Everest, how do you make safe travels without bringing as much waste to the mountain?
“In case the planes don’t fly and there’s no food along the way, I’m carrying enough calories with me to walk all the way to Jiri.” You were prepared to walk 115 harsh trail miles away to just escape.
What’s the next challenge for you?
