“My happiness has changed to where I no longer feel like my happiness is determined by what level of success the world sees me have.” – Kelsie Watts

Welcome Kelsie Watts

We’re joined on the Starline by an independent singer-songwriter on the rise. You’ve seen her in Season 19 of “The Voice”, performing with Trans-Siberian Orchestra and currently playing Jane Seymour in the Broadway production of “SIX: The Musical”. Her latest single is “Fit In” We welcome back our friend Kelsie Watts.

Kelsie, let’s go Beyond the Mic. You’ve sang in church, studied opera, and moved from your hometown of Lubbock, Texas to Nashville to now New York. How has music changed you?

How have you refused and yet tried to “Fit In” the music world?

What do you want people to take away from “Fit In”?

Who helped you making you fit in and don’t care about the normal musical path and just doing what makes you feel happy?

The Rockin’ 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions, answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. You and your husband connected over the Lion King while in South Africa. What’s your favorite Disney princess?

2. First tattoo was of what and where is it?

3. The best Mexican food in Lubbock was what and where? What’s your typical order?

Instant follow up: What would you do if someone brought it to you?

4. Last music you purchased was by which artist?

5. If you could record a song with anyone, dead or alive, who would you want one recording session with?

6. Other than SIX, what Broadway role would be your dream role?

7. Have you gotten hit by a bicyclist in New York yet?

8. Favorite Christmas song? (Slightly mad that they put you on TSO East rather than TSO West so you could perform with friend of the show Al Pitrelli)

The Back Half:

What is the power of music to your soul?

You said recently “Happiness is where you are”. Even with all the success you have encountered, how has your view of happiness changed?

What’s the one comfort thing you have to have on the road?

Broadway:

Where did you find out you got the role in SIX?

How long did you take you to compose yourself?

For someone who may have never seen the show, what is it about and what does it mean to you?

Which of the Six sisters are you closest with?

Singers have periods of time where you have to be on vocal rest which drives you crazy. What is your typical warmup for 8 shows a week on Broadway now?

How many pairs of shoes have you gone through since you live in New York now walking everywhere?

Who is the coach / teacher that helped you the most along the way?

You’ve sang on Broadway, did the national anthem at Yankees Stadium. You’ve checked off some dreams…

Who is your football team? When was the last game you went to?

Jerry Jones, Kelsie needs to sing the national anthem!

You’ve checked off some dreams. What’s your next dream?

Family:

Best lesson from your mom?

What about your dad?

What’s the one chore your husband Brandon depends on you to do?

Sneaking in Two More:

How has the adversity you faced in “The Voice” actually the training you needed to be a great singer?

You process emotions, especially your grief through writing music in sometimes a dark world. Who helps you find the light on a daily basis?

One Big Question:

You once said “One of my biggest messages at an artist is to let everyone know they’re not alone. you don’t have to “fit in” to a box. be you”. Who is Kelsie Watts?

Where can people find you online?

The Wrap:

Bring her Rosas Tortillas and she will love you forever and thinks the California Raisins Christmas album is the absolute best. She wants you to see her in Broadway in “SIX: The Musical” and hear “Fit In”. Kelsie Watts thanks for taking the time to talk with us today!
