Welcome Steven Raichlen:
We’re joined on the Starline by award winning author, journalist, TV Host & multiple award winner. He’s been called the “Julia Child of BBQ”, his international best seller celebrating 25th anniversary “The Barbeque! Bible” has been updated and needs to find a place in your home. We welcome BBQ master Steven Raichlen.
Steven, let’s go Beyond the Mic. Last time we talked you we chatted about grilling veggies. Now you’ve brought out the entire kitchen sink with The Barbeque! Bible. Over 500 recipes, countless lessons and enough stamps on a passport to make your airline frequent flier provider to beg for mercy. Was there a country or place you wanted to include but it wasn’t safe to visit for this book?
The BBQ Bible is a master’s course in cooking shrunk into 556 pages. How many pages was the initial draft?
My favorite recipe in the book was the scallop kebobs with pancetta, lemon and basil. How did you whittle down the recipes to the lucky ones and which was your favorite child?
You’ve cooked cactus, veggies, and so much food from around the world. Have you ever had someone grill something for you and you just had to pass?
The Rockin’ 8:
It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.
1. You have your Star Grill by Steven Raichlen on Windstar Cruises, where is your favorite port of call?
2. Longest ride you’ve taken on your bike this year was where?
3. Favorite of all your BBQ Mystery Boxes from BBQ University?
4. When you retire at the top of your game as king of the BBQ, who’s the person who is taking the reins from you?
5. Favorite 3 sides for every picnic?
6. Last time you went sailing on the Barbacoa?
7. For Steak Sunday, how do you like a ribeye cooked, what about prime rib?
8. You’ve done it all, even cooking on a shovel, but what’s the one thing you still want to try and do?
One Big Question:
If you could help people with ONE tip that would fix 99% of the mistakes most BBQ chefs make, what is it?
The Wrap:
He wanted to visit the republic of Georgia but war broke out, loves Barcelona & sailing. He has a PhD in BBQ and wants you to read The Barbecue! Bible. Steven thanks for taking the time to talk with us today!
